Pan Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Pan-roasting Brussels sprouts is a delicious and simple way to cook them, bringing out their natural sweetness and crispiness. Here’s a step-by-step guide for making them:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb Brussels sprouts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (or your choice of oil)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Optional: garlic (1-2 cloves, minced), balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes, or lemon zest
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts
- Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any outer leaves that look damaged or wilted.
- Slice them in half lengthwise to ensure they cook evenly.
2. Preheat the Pan
- Heat a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium heat. Add the olive oil and allow it to heat up.
3. Sear the Brussels Sprouts
- Place the Brussels sprouts in the skillet, cut-side down. Arrange them in a single layer for even cooking.
- Let them cook without stirring for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cut side is deeply browned and crispy.
4. Cook the Other Side
- Once the cut sides are golden, flip the Brussels sprouts over and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is browned.
5. Add Flavor (Optional)
- If you like, add minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes, just until fragrant.
- For added depth, you can drizzle a little balsamic vinegar or sprinkle with red pepper flakes for heat. A touch of lemon zest at the end can also brighten the dish.
6. Season and Serve
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from the heat.
- Serve immediately, and enjoy the crispy, caramelized goodness!
You can also serve them with a dipping sauce or as a side dish to meats or grains like quinoa or rice.
