About us
Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank (HHFFB) provided over $21 million worth of food to over 350 partner agencies in Berks and Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania in fiscal year 2026. In the Fall of 2025 Helping Harvest celebrated 42 years of making a difference for individuals and families dealing with the challenges of hunger and food insecurity in the region.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator
HHFFB is seeking an energetic, creative, and detail-oriented staff member to join our growing Development and Marketing Team as our Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This position will report to the Director of Development and collaborate with the team to help elevate the awareness of and affinity for the work of Helping Harvest through our web presence, social media, advertising and promotional print documents and publications.
Duties:
- Develop and execute marketing and communications strategies that further the mission of Helping Harvest through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Social media oversight including the strategy and generation of engaging content creation, scheduling, and performance tracking.
- General website maintenance and oversight.
- Support our visual brand identity, ensuring consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across all materials and platforms. Maintain inventory of print pieces and give aways.
- Oversight of print publications including program flyers, brochures, and working with other departments to gather content and ensure accuracy and alignment with messaging goals.
- Plan and execute external communication pieces including bi-annual print newsletter and monthly E-news, in collaboration with the Direct Response Fundraising Manager.
- Work with outside vendors to create and send out several mailed fundraising appeals.
- Manage relationship with the media including press releases, media visits, photo opportunities at special events and check presentations.
- Assist in writing stories, press releases and content for Development purposes. Collaborate with external vendors, printers, and creative agencies as needed to produce high-quality marketing and promotional materials.
- Along with other team members, provide support for Helping Harvest events and represent Helping Harvest at community events.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of relevant marketing/communications experience required.
- General computer skills including MS Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented, strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a non-profit health/human services organization is a plus.
- Willingness to work occasional evening or weekend hours.

Kitchen Assistant
Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank is seeking applicants for the position of Kitchen Assistant for our Community Kitchen.
Position Summary:
The Kitchen Assistant is an essential member of the Helping Harvest Community Kitchen team, helping turn fresh ingredients into meals that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Each day, our team works together to prepare, package, and distribute high-quality meals to community members facing food insecurity. This role supports all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cleaning and sanitation, meal assembly, and maintaining an organized workspace. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, thrives in a team environment, and takes pride in contributing to a mission that impacts the community every day. Join the team behind the meals! About us:
The Helping Harvest Community Kitchen (HHCK) is furthering the mission of Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank by creating approximately 2,500 nutritious, ready-to-eat meals weekly for distribution to food-insecure neighbors in Berks and Schuylkill counties.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, or silverware.
Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed and provide cooks with needed items.
Take and record temperature of food and food storage areas, such as refrigerators and freezers.
Carry food supplies, equipment, and utensils to and from storage and work areas.
Assist with inventory tracking, food rotation and proper storage of food and supplies.
Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers.
Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven environment.
Great collaboration and teamwork skills.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and/or culinary training preferred.
Some professional cooking experience is preferred.
SERVE Safe Food Handler certification (required or obtained within a specified time frame.)
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Valid driver’s license is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. daily.
Work in a commercial kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
