Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank is seeking applicants for the position of Staff Accountant. Helping Harvest provided more than 11.1 million pounds of food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity in 2025.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial integrity of the food bank and supporting operations that advance the mission of Helping Harvest.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, supporting schedules, and account reconciliations.
Assist with monthly and year-end financial close processes.
Assist in preparing internal financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Prepare supporting schedules for the annual independent audit and 990 filings.
Maintain W-9s for use in preparing 1099s.
Provide financial information to support grant application & management activities.
Prepare budget-to-actual reports and provide them to respective departments on a quarterly basis or as requested.
Assist with Human Resource function, including onboarding/offboarding, employee benefits enrollment, and maintaining confidential personnel files.
Crosstrain and serve as backup to prepare bank deposits, assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Support financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Promote high ethical standards and compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.
Other duties as requested.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
2 years minimum of accounting experience (food bank or other nonprofit experience is a plus).
Solid working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and management.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Possess good organization and communication skills.
Professional and reliable.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $55,000 and $65,000; placement within the range depends on experience.
Comprehensive benefits package, including health (with HRA), dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

CDL Class B Driver
Full job description
Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank is seeking applicants for a full time CDL Class B Driver. Helping Harvest provided more than 11.1 million pounds of food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity in 2025.
Duties
Provide excellent customer service to agency partners throughout Berks and Schuylkill counties at delivery sites.
Complete product pick-up at local retail stores, distribution centers or warehouses as directed.
Load and unload truck upon return to the warehouse in preparation for upcoming deliveries.
Complete daily inspections of company vehicle and address concerns with supervisor.
Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely fashion.
Maintain cleanliness and appearance of vehicle both inside and out.
Assist other departments in the warehouse as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Maintain a CDL Class B driver’s license and all required medical clearances.
Remain free of any health issue or substance use that would impair or adversely affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Ability to work respectfully and effectively as an individual and as a member of a team.

Ability to lift 35 pounds.

Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank is seeking applicants for the position of Cook III for our Community Kitchen.
Position Summary:
The Cook III is an entry-level culinary team member responsible for food production, cleanliness and other support activities in the Community Kitchen. This role ensures high-quality, nutritious meals are prepared safely and efficiently for community distribution. The Cook III supports kitchen staff and volunteers, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen environment.

The mission of Helping Harvest is to provide nutritious food to people facing hunger in our communities. The Helping Harvest Community Kitchen (HHCK) furthers that mission by creating nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for distribution to food-insecure neighbors in Berks and Schuylkill counties.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Food Preparation & Production:
– Daily activities include but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, dishwashing and trash removal.
– Under the supervision of the Production team, prepare and cook large-scale meals according to established recipes, menus, and nutrition guidelines.
– Work as a part of the Production team, ensuring timely meal service and consistency in quality and portioning.
– Ensure all food meets safety, quality, and presentation standards.
Food Safety & Compliance:
– Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal food safety regulations (e.g., ServSafe standards).
– Monitor proper food storage, labeling, and temperature control.
– Maintain sanitation standards and ensure cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, workspaces and dishwashing area.
Inventory & Resource Management:
– Assist with inventory tracking, food rotation and proper storage of food and supplies.
– Monitor stock levels and communicate inventory needs to the Production Chef.
Program Support:
– Support special programs, community events, and outreach initiatives as needed.
– Collaborate with kitchen leadership on menu planning and nutritional goals.
– Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven environment.
Physical Requirements:
– Ability to stand for extended periods.
– Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. daily.
– Work in a commercial kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
