How the Food Bank Works

Sourcing

We source food through our partnerships with Feeding America, government agencies, local retailers, food manufacturers, farms, and from local donations.

Facility

Food is sourced and delivered to our 51,000 square-foot warehouse facility. We store, pack and distribute food to more than 110,000 people in need throughout Berks and Schuylkill counties each year.

Distribution

Larger food deliveries are trucked from our facility to partner agencies for distribution. Partner agencies can pick up orders for their pantries, meal programs and food assistance programs. We also distribute food directly to our neighbors in need through our direct service programs.

Direct Service Programs

Helping Harvest provides direct support through Mobile Market distributions, Senior Programs, Youth Programs, and SNAP enrollment assistance. Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank has a full-time bilingual SNAP Outreach Coordinator who is happy to assist residents of Berks and Schuylkill Counties in applying for SNAP benefits. Helping Harvest’s SNAP Outreach Coordinator will walk individuals and families through the application process step by step and will provide follow up after submission.
