Together we can fight hunger!
Our new Congress has an enormous responsibility this year: passing a strong 2023 Farm Bill to support people facing hunger.
The farm bill is the cornerstone anti-hunger legislation at the national level. About every five years, lawmakers review and renew the farm bill. This process is an opportunity to strengthen and sustain almost every crucial federal nutrition program, helping people across the country keep food on the table.
Every five years, Congress can update the farm bill to make BIG investments in critical federal programs that help get food to families, including:
- The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which sends food from farms to food banks to families facing hunger. This is especially important now, as food banks face record demand and declining donations.
- The Supplementation Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the nation’s largest nutrition program, which provides monthly grocery assistance to 40 million people.
- The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which sends boxes of nutritious food to seniors to help them stay healthy and active.
As grocery prices remain high and supply chain disruptions continue, strengthening and expanding programs like TEFAP, SNAP, and CSFP helps individuals and families facing hunger fill in the gap.
Take action! Tell your lawmakers: We need a strong 2023 Farm Bill!
